Paving improvements on the Malahat have begun. The resurfacing work will cover a 5.5-kilometre stretch of Highway 1, extending from the Malahat summit viewpoint to Bamberton, reaching as far north as Mill Bay Road.

The work will be conducted during off-peak hours, from 8 p.m. on Sundays until 5 a.m. on Thursdays. The paving is anticipated to be completed by mid-October.

Traffic will be controlled with a single-lane alternating system between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., with delays of up to 20 minutes expected. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time, or consider avoiding travel during construction hours when possible.

To ensure safety on this busy route, drivers are reminded to obey all posted signs and follow instructions from traffic-management personnel.
