The Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) team has released an updated version of the Commercial Transport Policy Manual (CTPM). This revision includes administrative updates, such as refreshed contact information, clearer wording, and the removal of outdated sections. In addition, several key policy changes have been made that directly impact the commercial transport industry.
- All-Terrain Cranes: Cranes may now have seven or more axles, provided all other conditions are satisfied. The requirement for load equalization within 1,000 kilograms has also been removed to expedite the permit process.
- Picker Truck Tractors: Picker trucks may now be evaluated as mobile cranes if they lack cargo-carrying capacity and are not used with trailers. This clarification applies to both standalone picker truck tractors and picker truck tractor semi-trailers.
- Over-Dimensional Trailers and Semi-Trailers (for Export): Expanded height and width allowances now apply to trailers undergoing commercial transport review.
- Fixed Equipment Policy: The maximum KPLA has increased to 18.3 meters, replacing the previous STWB limit of 15.25 meters. Height limits have been raised to 4.88 meters outside the Peace River area, while the 5.33-meter limit remains unchanged within the Peace River area. Width allowances for single-trip permits have increased to 4.4 meters. The use of jeeps and boosters is now allowed beyond seasonal load restrictions, provided all other conditions are met.
- Modified Containers: Modified containers are now considered non-reducible loads for dimensional allowances, provided they meet legal weight requirements.
- 9-Axle Log Trucks: A new section in Chapter 4 has been added to address 9-axle log trucks.
- Pre-Approved 85-Tonne Routes: Additional pre-approved routes have been included in Chapter 6, Section 6.3.3.C.
