We're hosting sessions for carriers in Prince George, Kelowna and Nanaimo to talk about industry issues specific to these regions and what BCTA is doing about them. Everyone is welcome.
Dave Earle, BCTA President & CEO, will discuss the Canadian ELD mandate, the worker shortage, and, for example, what carriers need to know about regulations related to greenhouse gas emissions and other standards affecting trucking. You'll break for a 45-minute lunch and networking, then Dave will provide details on substance use and impairment issues in the workplace, to help carriers prepare for upcoming cannabis legislation. This talk will cover:
Overview of substance use in Canada (including the legalization of alcohol, for comparison).
Current state of the law as it relates to testing – reasonable suspicion, post-incident, pre-employment and random testing.
Anticipated changes to Canadian law, including limitations for testing and enforcement.
Steps to address substance use in the workplace.
Discipline and accommodation considerations.
Practical policy examples and where to go or more information.
Dave encourages your questions throughout. Please join us to learn more about BCTA and how we're helping with issues that affect your business.
