Helping with BC Wildfires

Given the current emergency situation with wildfires in BC, which includes highway closures and the evacuation of entire communities, the BC Trucking Association recommends that all those outside the area who’d like to help people affected by the fires donate directly to the Red Cross.  Your donations allow Red Cross emergency coordinators and workers to provide immediate assistance to communities and individuals affected by these fires directly.

Along with other members of the Canadian Trucking Alliance, BCTA supports the Trucks for Change Network, which has an existing partnership with the Red Cross that was proven in the Fort McMurray fire in 2016 and flooding this spring in parts of eastern Canada.  For the BC wildfire emergency, BCTA and Trucks for Change are working together as follows:

  • We have set up a web portal for donations to the Red Cross from the trucking industry to be directed to the BC Fires Appeal.  The portal is at this link,, and you can donate as an individual or on behalf of your company. Donations in any amount are appreciated and welcome.
  • The Red Cross is communicating its storage and transportation needs for affected communities with Trucks for Change, and BCTA is assisting with these through our member network.

We urge British Columbians who would like to help to make donations to the Red Cross.  Your contribution will go towards financial assistance, cots, blankets and family reunification services.  Money will also be used to assist people to return to their communities.

If you prefer to make donations outside the trucking industry portal, you can do so by calling the Red Cross at 1-800-418-1111 or  visiting this page.

You can also text FIRES to 45678 to donate $10 to the Canadian Red Cross BC Fires Appeal.

If you have items like food, water, energy drinks or feed for evacuated pets or livestock, the Red Cross may be able to use them; however, we recommend contacting the Red Cross directly to verify its needs and capacity for accepting donations of physical goods. For general enquiries, contact or call 1-800-418-1111.  There is also a Frequently Asked Questions list about donations with general information.
