SUMMARY:In Conversation with TransLink
DESCRIPTION:Shaping the Future of Freight Movement in Metro Vancouver\nWhen most people think of TransLink\, they think of public transit. But did you know that TransLink also plays a vital role in the planning and management of goods movement throughout the Metro Vancouver region? \nTransLink currently has several strategic plans and initiatives under development that have significant implications for the trucking industry. These include a Regional Road Safety Strategy\, with both direct and indirect impacts on commercial vehicle operations\, as well as an initial study to identify Freight Supportive Measures (with more work planned in 2027) that could significantly improve the efficiency\, reliability\, and competitiveness of goods movement in the region. \nThe BC Trucking Association invites you to join a webinar with TransLink to learn about these important initiatives and their potential implications for the trucking industry. This is also an opportunity to share your experiences\, challenges\, and perspectives\, helping to ensure that the realities of day-to-day trucking operations are reflected in future transportation planning decisions. \nTopics to be covered include: \n\nRegional Road Safety Strategy: TransLink will provide an overview of the strategy development process\, sharing key findings from the Truck Safety Knowledge Brief\, which examines the factors influencing truck safety across Metro Vancouver.\nFreight Supportive Measures on Gateway-Enabling Major Road Network Corridors: The FSMs Study will identify policy\, infrastructure\, and operational measures that support more efficient freight movement in the region. Given the national goals to diversify Canada’s international trade\, TransLink is proposing to initially focus on opportunities that support the deployment of FSMs along key municipal corridors that are part of the Major Road Network (MRN) and enable international trade to strengthen connectivity to the airports\, ports\, and intermodal facilities in the region\, which collectively make up the “Vancouver Gateway”.\nCurrent and Upcoming Initiatives: TransLink will provide updates on several recent and upcoming initiatives\, including:\n\nPre-feasibility assessment for expanding Long Combination Vehicle (LCV) operations in Metro Vancouver\nImplementation of the Regional Permit Policies and Procedures Manual (RP3M)\nDevelopment of a Dangerous Goods Route Network\nReview of the Regional Truck Route Network\n\n\n\nDiscussion & Feedback\nTransLink is actively seeking input from the trucking industry as these initiatives move forward. This webinar provides a valuable opportunity to raise issues\, identify challenges\, and share practical insights from day-to-day operations. Your feedback can help shape policies\, infrastructure investments\, and operational measures that will affect freight movement across Metro Vancouver for years to come. \nSpeakers\nVivian Law\, Senior Manager\, Multi-Modal Programs\nVivian leads the Multi-Modal Programs team in TransLink’s Engineering Division\, which is responsible for the Major Road Network\, goods movement initiatives and local government funding programs. \nKatarina Stevovic\, Manager\, Major Road Network\nKatarina has more than a decade of public-sector transportation experience spanning capital programming\, project design and strategic planning. She currently manages the Major Road Network and supports safe and efficient multimodal transportation across Metro Vancouver. \nJessica McLennan\, Project Manager\, Goods Movement\nJessica is a transportation planning engineer with more than 15 years of consulting and public-sector experience. She has led freight and logistics initiatives ranging from cargo-bike delivery systems to Long Combination Vehicle operations. \nGreg Kolesniak\, Manager\, Goods Movement\nGreg is responsible for delivering initiatives that support TransLink’s goods movement mandate\, including priorities identified in the Regional Goods Movement Strategy and Transport 2050. He also serves as secretariat for TransLink’s Commercial Vehicle Subcommittee. \nEvent Details\nDate: Thursday\, October 15\, 2026\nTime: 10:00 a.m.–11:30 a.m.\nLocation: Online\nCost: Free \nRegistered participants will receive the webinar link and event updates by email.
