Making Sense of Climate Change: What you need to know about climate change and what’s on the horizon

by Andrew Weaver, Internationally Acclaimed Climate Scientist

Based on his books Keeping Our Cool, which Thomas Homer-Dixon calls "the best single book on our climate crisis and what [Canadians] should do about it," and Generation Us, for which David Suzuki notes “for this clear and easily understandable book, we owe Dr. Weaver a debt of gratitude”, this talk breathes urgent life into the most important discussion of our lifetime. Drawing on his bedrock understanding of climate science, Weaver, engaging and straightforward, shows you what truly is at stake: he frames our current climate within the context of the last 800,000 years; he looks at what the next century holds; and he clarifies public confusion in a frank, authoritative manner. He is unafraid to speak about the policies needed to reduce greenhouse emissions and about the efforts-- especially from the government and citizens-- needed to make them a reality.

Andrew WeaverAndrew Weaver is one of the world's foremost climate scientists and a leading expert on global warming. Weaver was a lead author in the second, third, fourth, and fifth Assessment Reports with the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change—the group that, with Al Gore, won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize and is a Lansdowne Professor at the University of Victoria.

He is the author of the books, Keeping Our Cool and Generation Us; has authored or co-authored over two hundred peer-reviewed studies in climate, earth science, policy, and education journals; and was chief editor of the Journal of Climate from 2005-2009. A recipient of numerous awards, Weaver was named a Guggenheim Fellow; a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society; a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union; a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; a Fellow of the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society; a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada; and a Member of the Order of British Columbia.

Authentic Leadership: How to attract and retain the right people and succeed in your company

by David Irvine, The Leader's Navigator

We know that leadership matters. But leadership isn’t defined by a person’s title, the size of their office, or the letters behind their name. Leaders are defined by their attitude, their actions, and their impact. True, authentic leaders make a difference by being a good person. There’s a difference between a boss and a leader. Bosses might get the job done, but leaders build trust, make the connections, and can attract, retain, and engage the right people.
David Irvine’s presentation promises to be an inspiring and practical session that will focus on how to be a more influential and effective leader in every area of your life.  You will learn how to better understand the missing link to attracting and retaining the right people, make accountability inspiring rather than punitive, discover the power of authenticity in leadership, and leave with tools to better yourself so you can be a better leader – in all areas of your life.
