In addition to the Kicking Horse Canyon Project, there are currently 6 projects under construction as part of the Highway 1 – Kamloops to Alberta Four Laning Program. Projects are being coordinated amongst each other but can lead up to cumulative delays of 45 to 90 minutes for the entire route from Kamloops to Golden. These delays are in addition to the daytime stoppages from 20 minutes to 2 hours in the Kicking Horse Canyon area, which can put further challenges/strain on loads that come to and out of the west coast. Additionally, during traffic diversion periods, expect increased presence and enforcement from RCMP and Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Officers.
Anticipated construction delays from Kamloops to Golden are as follows:
Kicking Horse Canyon
During Phase 4 of Kicking Horse Canyon Project, travelers can choose the alternate route of Highways 93S and 95, which will add up to 90 minutes to travel time.
On both May 15 and May 16 starting at 9 am to 3 pm (MDT), intermittent daytime lane closures will be in place, along with overnight full closure from 10 pm to 7 am on May 15 and 10 pm. to 5 am on May 16. KHCC will then resume the full extended closure between 7:30 am Monday, May 17 to 12pm on Friday, May 21. There will be no closures during the May long weekend (May 22-24), and the full extended closure will be back in effect from noon on May 25 until noon on May 28.
