BCTA is pleased to advise that Transport Canada has announced the first certified electronic logging device (ELD) by BCTA member Hutch Systems Inc., and that more devices are expected to be certified in the coming months. Transport Canada has also approved a third Canadian organization to be accredited to certify ELDs.

A list of approved devices can be found on the Transport Canada website as they become certified, including a registry of accredited certification bodies.

Due to the many challenges caused by COVID-19, jurisdictions remain committed to the 12-month progressive enforcement strategy announced by the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) on May 5th, 2021. This strategy allows the enforcement community to work with carriers until June 12, 2022, without issuing penalties.  The progressive enforcement strategy provides time for carriers to adopt certified ELDs, including the purchase, installation, and training required for compliance, in advance of the mandate in 2022.

To help support BCTA members in complying with the ELD mandate, BCTA is hosting a free ELD Update Webinar on Tuesday, September 28. Join us to learn more about the current progressive enforcement strategy and the ELD mandate for federally regulated carriers that comes into force in June 2022.
