On November 23, 2021, BCTA sent a Thank You Letter to Kaye Krishna, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, to follow-up on discussion topics from the November 2, 2021, meeting.
BCTA is committed to working with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI) in support of enabling a more sustainable, stronger, and safer commercial transportation sector on the following priorities and initiatives:
To support the commercial road transportation industry, BCTA recommended the following:
- Implementing electronic logging devices (ELDs) coincident with Transport Canada;
- Mandating provincial speed limiters on all heavy-duty trucks with a maximum speed set to 105 km/h;
- Extending the CleanBC Heavy-duty Vehicle Efficiency Program partnership between the Province and BCTA for at least an additional three years;
- Supporting BC’s breakbulk sector through promoting a more efficient road network on Highway 91/17; and
- Addressing Provincial Permit Centre backlogs through reviewing and simplifying the current regulatory framework for oversize- overweight (OS-OW) vehicles and expediting the development of an online permit system with the ability to support multi-jurisdictional permitting.
BCTA looks forward to our joint efforts with MoTI to support and improve the safety of our industry and continue our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
