On December 3, 2021, the new Highway 17 and River Road interchange opened to traffic. The interchange improves the connection between the Highway 91 connector, Highway 17 and River Road.

As part of the $260 million Deltaport Way upgrade project, the first of the four interchanges are now complete, and aims to provide improved permitting and inspection service for commercial vehicle operators and better operating hours at the Nordel commercial inspection facility. Other project benefits include:

• Improved travel time through Delta
• Enhanced traffic safety
• Increased access between South Delta and North Delta/Surrey employment areas
