Work is scheduled to begin at the end of January on upgrading the southbound Simon Fraser Bridge, located on Highway 97 in Prince George.  The project includes a full deck replacement and strengthening of the truss. It will also replace the bridge’s north abutment which will increase the current underpass height restrictions and allow taller transport trucks to pass underneath on Queensway/Ferry Avenue.

The Simon Fraser Bridge is the main north-south route through Prince George and is key for the transport of goods to the north of the province, supporting the forestry, mining, oil, and gas sectors.

Southbound traffic will merge from two lanes to one and cross using the newer northbound bridge, reducing the four-lane traffic to two, and is planned to be in place until late Fall 2022.
