BCTA had a positive first meeting with interim CEO of BC Ferries, Jill Sharland on August 22, 2022, in which BC Ferries was briefed on some of the top line issues that continue to result in significant challenges for our sector.
BCTA highlighted the following topics:
- addressing high frequency and last-minute reservation cancelations and no-shows;
- adding a second berth at Duke Point to accommodate increased commercial traffic to Vancouver Island; and
- prioritization of the lower vehicle deck space for commercial vehicles, regardless of who arrived first in support of Hours of Service and road safety.
BCTA is committed to working with BC Ferries to support the shared priorities of the commercial road transportation industry. Jill Sharland appreciated the opportunity to hear about the range of issues our industry is facing and is looking forward to working with BCTA to support the safe, efficient movement of commercial vehicles and goods via marine transportation.
