While Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) officers have begun enforcing the federal Electronic Logging Device (ELD) mandate for federally regulated carriers in British Columbia, the same does not apply in all jurisdictions across Canada.

The provincial trucking associations that form the Canadian Trucking Alliance have compiled an updated chart which explains what to expect in each jurisdiction with respect to enforcement that started January 1. Click here for details.

A reminder for those who operate exclusively in BC: CVSE is expected to announce further information for ELD mandate timelines for provincially-regulated carriers in the near future:

• If you operate within BC and do not travel to other jurisdictions, you will continue to be subject to Motor Vehicle Act Regulations Division 37 requirements which have not yet been amended to include an ELD mandate.
• Regarding a BC ELD mandate, exemptions have not yet been confirmed as regulations have not been confirmed by Cabinet. When the ELD mandate will be enforced in BC is not known, however the Province will take a fair approach to accommodate ELD installation and training.
• If you operate inter-provincially, BC has began enforcement of the federal ELD Mandate as per the Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service Regulations as of January 1, 2023.
