This construction season will see an investment of approximately $53 million dedicated to resurfacing 260 kilometers of northern highways and local roads.

In the Smithers region, a repaving project will cover roughly 28 kilometers of highways and side roads. This includes the resurfacing of 21 kilometers along Highway 16, spanning from Witset to Nouch Road, as well as seven kilometres of side roads such as Old Babine Road, Hudson Bay Mountain Road, and Slack Road. This project is expected to conclude by the end of summer 2024.

In Terrace, efforts are underway to resurface 27 kilometers of Highway 37S from the roundabout at the junction with Highway 16 to Onion Lake, along with one kilometer of Beam Station Road. This project is scheduled for completion for 2024 summer, with potential delays of up to 15 minutes for drivers between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

While travelling through these areas, please observe construction zone speed limits and follow the directions of traffic-control personnel for smooth traffic flow.

Other major resurfacing projects taking place in the region this spring and summer include:

  • Highway 97 Chetwynd Area (30 kilometres)
  • Highway 16 Lasalle Lake to West Twin Bridge (17 kilometres)
  • Highway 37 Pinetree Lake to Good Hope (46 kilometres)
  • Highway 37 North Stikine Hill (12 kilometres)
  • Highway 29 Chetwynd to Cameron Lake (39 kilometres)
