Evening travelers on Highway 1 in Saanich are to be prepared for the Colquitz River Bridges Widening Project.

Overnight work will continue Sunday through Thursday nights until July 4, 2024. No work is scheduled for Friday or Saturday nights. During this period, the northbound right lane will be closed to accommodate the widening of the eastbound Colquitz Bridge.

During the lane closure, the maximum vehicle width allowed through this area will be 3.5 meters. The speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h at all times for the duration of the project. The left lane and the off-ramp to Burnside Drive will remain open. This construction schedule is planned to minimize disruptions, targeting low traffic-volume times and anticipating the summer travel season.

The project involves widening and seismically retrofitting both existing two-lane bridges over Burnside Road on Highway 1.

Drivers are advised to follow traffic-management personnel and signage in the area and to exercise caution in active construction zones.
