August 19, 2024
Starting Monday, August 19, travelers heading through the Shawnigan Lake area will need to brace for some changes, as a significant road upgrade gets underway. Crews will be working on a 3.5-kilometre stretch along Shawnigan Lake Road, from the West Shawnigan Lake Road intersection up to Verlon Road.
For locals, access will still be maintained during the project, but for everyone else, expect detours. Traffic will be redirected through West Shawnigan Lake Road, with only a slight increase in travel time. It’s worth noting that anyone driving near the construction site might encounter delays of up to 30 minutes, plan ahead!
Working hours will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and with construction projected to wrap up by mid-October. Officials are urging drivers to heed all posted signs and follow directions from traffic controllers on site to ensure safety.
This effort is part of a broader push to modernize the area’s infrastructure, ultimately leading to smoother, safer travel for both locals and visitors. Once complete, the newly improved Shawnigan Lake Road will offer a more comfortable drive, better accommodating the increasing flow of traffic through this part of town.
