$1 Million in Rebates Available for Fuel-Reducing Technology

Langley, BC  [September 17, 2024] – The BC Trucking Association (BCTA) is proud to announce the launch of the latest intake, Year Six, of the CleanBC Heavy-Duty Vehicle Efficiency (HDVE) Program, in partnership with the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. This program provides $1 million in rebates toward the adoption of fuel-saving technologies for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, supporting the Province’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and improve the efficiency of British Columbia’s trucking industry.

The commercial trucking sector is responsible for approximately 36% of carbon emissions in B.C.’s transportation industry, making it a key area of focus in the fight against climate change. The HDVE Program supports the use of fuel-efficient technologies, helping to reduce emissions while enhancing competitiveness in the trucking sector. This program aligns with B.C.’s legislated emissions reduction targets, which aim to reduce carbon pollution by 40% below 2007 levels by 2030, 60% by 2040, and 80% by 2050.

Dave Earle, President and CEO of the B.C. Trucking Association, emphasized the importance of this program for the industry, saying "The CleanBC HDVE Program is a win-win for our sector. It helps our members reduce fuel costs, lowers carbon emissions, and makes the trucking industry more sustainable. With $1 million in rebates available, we encourage all eligible companies to apply and invest in the future of greener transportation."

Rob Fleming, B.C.’s Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, highlighted the Program’s role in achieving the Province’s climate goals. "The CleanBC Heavy-Duty Vehicle Efficiency Program plays a critical role in helping us meet B.C.’s ambitious climate action targets. By working with the trucking industry, we can make significant progress in reducing emissions and building a cleaner, more resilient economy for all British Columbians."

Eligible applicants for the program can receive rebates on approved fuel-reducing technologies such as low- and zero-emission reefers, fuel-efficient tires, and auxiliary power units. Rebates of up to $15,000 per vehicle, and $50,000 per fleet are available for the purchase and installation of the approved technology. Applications are open until August 31, 2025, or until all funds have been allocated. Trucking companies are encouraged to apply early to maximize the benefit of the available rebates.

To be eligible for program incentives, BCTA membership is not required. Companies must meet the full eligibility criteria that are available in the HDVE Program Guide. For more information on eligibility requirements and how to apply, visit the BCTA website.
