Starting May 1, 2025, ICBC will require fleet customers operating long-haul commercial vehicles rated for out-of-province travel to install forward-facing dashcams if they carry $10 million Optional Extension Third Party Liability (TPE) coverage.

This new dashcam requirement is in addition to the existing obligation for customers with $10 million TPE coverage to complete a questionnaire before policy renewal. The questionnaire enables ICBC’s Fleet Underwriting team to evaluate Optional coverage availability and pricing.

Key Points for Compliance:

  • The dashcam must be forward-facing and installed before the policy renewal date.
  • If the questionnaire and required information are not submitted, or if the dashcam is not installed, Optional Extension TPE limits for renewals will default to $5 million.
  • Optional coverage and pricing may be further reviewed and adjusted following a risk assessment by Fleet Underwriting.

This policy change only applies to:

  1. ICBC customers
  2. Trucks with third-party insurance coverage exceeding $5 million
  3. Vehicles operating out of province

Members impacted by this change should prepare for the upcoming requirement to ensure compliance and avoid potential disruptions to coverage.
