Kicking Horse Canyon Constructors (KHCC) has been implementing intermittent lane closures on Trans-Canada Highway through the Kicking Horse Canyon Phase 4 construction site throughout March and will extend the lane closures to April 10, 2021. In addition, KHCC will implement overnight full closures in the Kicking Horse Canyon on Hwy 1 from March 29 through to April 10, 2021.

There will be additional lane closures Mondays to Saturdays from March 29 through to April 10, 2021. Construction activities will take place during 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Expect up to 30-minute travel delays due to single-lane alternating traffic at the construction site each day. Lane closures will not be in effect during peak periods from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (MDT).

During these full nighttime closures, the highway will be closed between Golden and the project limits west of the Kicking Horse Rest Area at the following intervals:

  • Evening Full Closure 1: 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (MDT); and
  • Overnight Full Closure 2: 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (MDT).

During these periods, TransCanada Highway traffic will be routed via Highways 93S and 95, which will add up to 90 minutes to travel time.

There will be no closures or stoppages due to construction during the Easter long holiday weekend, from Thursday, April 1st at 12:00 noon (MDT) until Tuesday, April 6th 12:00 noon (MDT) to ensure limited impact to motorists over the long holiday weekend.
