The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will be completing rehabilitation work on Alex Fraser Bridge (AFB) starting in June.
The AFB Modular Joints Replacement Project will address two joints requiring replacement on the bridge. The project is expected to complete construction in January 2022.
Traffic Impacts:
- Most of the work will occur as nightwork with lane closures between the hours of 7:30 pm and 5:30 am
- Counterflow hours may be adjusted to accommodate the nightwork
- A 5m clearance envelope will be maintained for oversized loads
- The project also requires 6 weekends during which the bridge capacity will be reduced to 2 lanes in each direction:
- The weekend lane closures will be Friday 8pm to Monday 4am
- The weekend closures will occur in pairs and be advertised to the public well in advance of the work
- Between each pair of weekends (3 weeks total) it is likely the counterflow will not be operable due to a grade separation, instead there will be 4 lanes southbound and 3 lanes northbound for the duration of the week
- Traffic management will be coordinated with the Highway 91/ 17 Interchange Improvement project also under construction
