The BC government has launched a $50 million grant program to support tourism across the province during COVID-19. The Major Anchor Attractions Program provides one-time emergency funding to major anchor attractions and tour bus companies that service tourism attractions.
The program is designed to help approved tourism businesses operate at minimal levels until domestic travel resumes and it is safe to gather indoors in small groups. The program is available to businesses and not-for-profits.
Of note for the motor coach sector, tour bus companies that serve 30,000 or more passengers per year (2019 levels) and can demonstrate that they support and have an ongoing relationship with one or more tourism attractions are eligible for up to $500,000 in assistance.
Eligible expenses include payroll, rent and utility costs related to restarting or ramping up operations in preparation for gradual reopening in alignment with provincial health orders.
Please review the eligibility requirements to determine if you qualify. If you believe you are eligible, you can request an application package by emailing COVID.Tourism.Recovery@gov.bc.ca. Applicants will be required to provide documentation, including financial statements and tax returns as indicated in the package. Applications are due by June 7, 2021 at 1:00 pm, with funds provided in July 2021.
