Phase four of the Kicking Horse Canyon Project will require extended multi-day closures of the Trans-Canada Highway east of Golden this fall.

Traffic disruptions and full highway closures will be necessary to carry out heavy excavation and construction required for the final phase of the construction. 

Extended closure dates:

• 12pm September 20^th – 12pm September 24^th

• 12pm September 27^th – 12pm October 8^th

• 12pm October 12^th – 6am December 1^st

During these periods, Trans-Canada Highway traffic will be routed via Highways 93S and 95, which will add up to 90 minutes travel time.  Construction zone will be opened to local/commuter traffic only, escorted by a pilot vehicle, during one half-hour period in the morning and one half-hour period in the afternoon.

There will be no closures or stoppages due to construction during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend from 12pm on October 8^th to 12pm on October 12^th.

Scheduled times of the potential two-hour and overnight closures will be posted a week before on DriveBC.ca.

Carriers and drivers are also reminded that construction to four-lane Highway 1 from Kamloops to Golden is still underway and is expected to continue for the next few months as environmental conditions allow. These construction activities are anticipated to result in a cumulative delay of approximately 45 - 90 minutes, which is in addition to the Kicking Horse Canyon Project ~90 minute detour travel time.
