Background Information:
Recognizing the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Minister of Transport announced the implementation of a progressive enforcement period for federally regulated motor carriers that will be developed with the support of the provinces and territories and in consultation with industry, following June 12, 2021.
By June 12, 2022, all federally regulated carriers who use paper logs must transition to a third party certified ELD. ELD hardware and software must be tested and certified by a third-party certification body accredited by the Minister of Transport.
To date, three certification bodies have been accredited and are authorized to test and certify ELDs, which includes (COMDriver Tech, CSA Group, and FPInnovations). Click here for the registry of accredited third-party certification bodies.
Transport Canada will be adding devices to a list of ELDs once they are certified by an accredited body. More devices are expected to be listed in the coming months. Click here for the list of approved devices.
