The BCTA has a newly developed Marine Transportation Committee, with the intent to promote the efficient movement of commercial vehicles and goods movement to BC communities via marine transportation such as BC Ferries, Seaspan City Transfer, and other barge providers. By identifying opportunities and policy recommendations for the BCTA Board to consider in support of safe, efficient movement of commercial vehicles and goods via marine transportation, the committee helps to provide direction to BCTA staff to lobby those agencies.

BC’s population has grown at a rate of 7.6% between 2016 and 2021 and now surpasses five million people, based on data from Statistics Canada.  Of significance to this Committee, is that many of the fastest growing cities in BC are coastal communities serviced by marine transportation of goods, such as Nanaimo, Langford, Tofino, Sooke which have all grown by over 10% since 2016.  This demonstrates the importance of this Committee in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of goods via marine transportation.

The first meeting of this committee will be on Tuesday, November 22nd at 10:00am.

BCTA members who are interested in joining the Marine Transportation Committee can contact Cory Paterson, BCTA Vice President, at CoryP@BCtrucking.com or 604-888-5319.
