On November 16, 2022,  Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) confirmed the implementation of the new National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021 for immigration programs and trucking’s entrance in Express Entry programs.

This update will allow the trucking industry much better access to drivers who want to work in our industry and settle in Canada permanently.  The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) has been diligently working with the federal government to emphasize the immediate need to address the truck driver shortage in Canada and discover long term strategies to mitigate supply chain constraints.

Express Entry programs are the most prominent immigration pathways for skilled workers, and works with three economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), to expedite the processing of permanent residence applications for skilled workers.

The CTA will continue to work with Hon. Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, to ensure that our sector has the access it needs to effectively tap into the international labour pool.
