As the Lieutenant Governor commences the first day of the parliamentary session through the deliverance of the Throne Speech on February 6th, 2023, the Government of British Columbia, with its budgetary surplus has committed itself to reducing the cost of living for British Columbians. They are addressing the impacts of climate change, while ensuring that BC continues to be an attractive place for business ventures.
On the list of legislative and policy priorities relevant to road transportation, the BC government is seeking to:
- Increase urgency measures to meet the CleanBC Roadmap to 2030 targets and work towards reaching net-zero emissions across the province;
- Diversify and expand BC’s power grid through investment in electric and hydrogen supply;
- Ensure goods are moving more efficiently across the province to increase business outputs;
- Investing in climate change tactics to make BC more resilient and responsive to reoccurring climate disasters; and
- Increasing investments towards EV infrastructure.
More details will be provided once the BC Budget 2023 is released later this spring.
