The next phase of rehabilitation work on the Knight Street Bridge Work is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks. The upcoming work involves deck rehabilitation, bearing replacement on selected piers, and bicycle railings installation.

Schedule

Bearing replacement work is anticipated to start in early March 2023 and the deck resurfacing in late April 2023. The deck resurfacing is weather dependent. All work is expected to be completed in late December 2023.

Traffic Impacts

The bearing replacement work will have no impact on bridge users. However, the deck rehabilitation/resurfacing work and the installation of bicycle railings will result in traffic disruptions.

Daytime Impacts - During the day, the bridge will be in normal operating condition – all lanes open to traffic. Traffic may be required to travel on a milled surface for approximately 300-500m (maximum allowable length for the Contractor.)

Nighttime Impacts -To minimize the impacts on traffic, the work, which will require lane closures, will be conducted at night between 9pm and 5am, with longer hours on the weekend/statutory holiday, i.e., between 9pm and 9am.  During the work, one lane in each direction will be maintained. Access to Mitchell Island will also be maintained at all times.

Trucks - From our previous experience, we learned that term permits (pre-approved) would allow trucks up to 3.8m to travel any day/time without additional need to submit for approval.  As such, we will be accommodating trucks up to 3.8m wide at all times.
