August 1, 2023, marked the first day of BC’s provincial ELD mandate, coming into force after the requirement for ELDs in BC was announced in February 2023, giving BC carriers six months to comply with the mandate.
Enforcement officers in BC may issue violation tickets to carriers who fail to equip a commercial motor vehicle with a certified electronic logging device (ELD) as required under MVAR 37.39. The fine amount is $520 (or a ticketed amount of $598 when the victim surcharge is included). Fine amounts for violations under MVAR Division 37 are defined in the Violation Ticket Administration and Fines Regulation which was amended on August 1, 2023.
