Chain-up:

This is a reminder that all vehicles over 11,794 kg licensed GVW must carry chains, and mount chains when directed by chain-up signage. Special requirements apply on Highway 93S through Kootenay National Park, where any vehicle over 5,500 kg GVW or pulling a trailer must mount chains when directed by “chain-up” signage.

For vehicles travelling the alternate route, a temporary chain-up area has been established north of Radium Hot Springs, where traffic control personnel will be deployed during chain-up requirement periods.

Wildlife & School Children:

Please be aware of the presence of migrating wildlife- there is an abundance of wildlife along the Highways 93S/95 route, with numerous reports of vehicle-animal collisions (many involving commercial vehicles).

Drivers should also be on the alert for school buses and children on Highway 95 and remember that the law and safety of children requires all vehicles to stop in both directions when the red school bus lights are flashing.
