Transport Canada’s new registration process known as the Client Identification Database (CID) is for persons or organizations involved in Dangerous Goods (DG) activities.   To determine if your organization needs to register, click here to take a short survey. Registration for qualifying organizations is required by October 25, 2024.

If your business imports, offers for transport, handles, or transports dangerous goods in Canada, you must register on Transport Canada's Client Identification Database (CID) platform before the October deadline.

Transport Canada's internal audits and reports by the Office of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development from 2006 to 2020 revealed inconsistencies in the oversight of dangerous goods activities. These inconsistencies included importation, offering for transport, handling, and transportation, and were highlighted by over 2,500 reportable transportation of dangerous goods (TDG) incidents between 2009 and 2021. In response, Transport Canada developed a TDG database to improve risk assessment capabilities and establish a comprehensive oversight program.
