Winter presents serious challenges for commercial drivers on BC’s highways, especially on routes like the Coquihalla, where conditions can change rapidly. Recognizing the critical importance of timely, accurate information to keep drivers safe, BCTA has worked closely with Yellowhead Road & Bridge to secure a key resource for our members: real-time GPS access to snow removal machinery.

BCTA members can now monitor the live GPS locations of snow removal vehicles operating on the Coquihalla within Service Area 14 – Nicola. This access to GPS data will help our members better evaluate current road conditions and make informed decisions on whether it is safe to continue their routes during heavy snowfall.

BCTA will continue to work with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and road contractors, and advocate for greater transparency in highway maintenance operations, so drivers have access to essential, real-time information no matter where they are in the province.

Please let us know if you have any feedback or additional suggestions. Together, we’re working to improve highway safety and ensure the well being of truck drivers throughout the winter season.
