The City Council has recently authorized a six-month truck route pilot project to study the potential impacts of removing certain truck route designations in Kamloops’ downtown core. This pilot, running from November 15, 2024, to May 15, 2025, will see the removal of truck route designations on both Lansdowne and Seymour Streets. Through this trial, the city aims to gain valuable insights into downtown traffic flow and inform future transportation decisions.
This initiative aligns with the City's Downtown Plan, which includes evaluating options for truck routes to support the area's urban design and transportation objectives. Earlier in 2024, Lansdowne Street was temporarily removed as a truck route due to construction. With Seymour Street also being added to the closure as of Nov 15, this pilot will create a more comprehensive testing environment for the next six months.
Throughout the pilot, trucks will be permitted on non-truck routes, provided they follow the closest and most direct paths to their destinations. However, restrictions remain in place for certain areas, prohibiting vehicles over 10,900 kg from accessing specific parts of Kamloops.
