November 25, 2024
As we approach the end of the year, BCTA is wrapping up its 2024 National Safety Code (NSC) Program offerings with two final opportunities to expand your expertise. Level One will be held on November 28, followed by Level Two on November 29, providing a thorough understanding of NSC regulations across both levels.
The National Safety Code Program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and tools to maintain compliance. Completion of Level One or a solid understanding of NSC regulations is recommended before attending Level Two.
Level One is divided into three sessions to help participants grasp the fundamentals of NSC compliance:
- NSC Hours of Service: Covers hours of service cycles, exemptions, proper logging, and U.S. electronic logging device requirements.
- NSC Compliance Officer: Focuses on pre-trip inspections, driver evaluations, driver paperwork, and remedial training for underperforming drivers.
- NSC Record Keeping: Teaches proper maintenance of driver and vehicle files, creating recall systems, and audit preparation.
Building on the foundational knowledge from Level One, Level Two delves deeper into record-keeping, audits, and compliance strategies:
- Driver Records: Learn how to maintain records like letters of discipline, policy manuals, and driver assessments. Discover best practices for obtaining frequent driver abstracts and monitoring hours of service.
- Vehicle Records: Understand vehicle safety management plans, vehicle maintenance records, and how to create and manage these critical documents.
- Hours of Service Management: Explore detailed requirements for monitoring and auditing logbooks, hours of service regulations in Canada and the U.S., and handling special cases like adverse weather and North of the 60th Parallel operations.
- Building and Managing NSC Files: Participants will practice creating, managing, and purging NSC files, implementing recall systems to track expiring paperwork effectively.
- Motor Vehicle Act and Carrier Profile Analysis: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the Motor Vehicle Act regulations, the impact of audits on operations, and how to read and interpret a carrier profile. Participants are encouraged to bring a copy of their carrier profile for hands-on learning.
Both courses use a lecture-discussion format and include quizzes to reinforce learning. Attendance certificates will be provided upon completion.
Note: These courses are for informational purposes only and do not qualify participants for an official NSC Certificate. For details on obtaining an NSC Certificate, contact the Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure, CVSE, NSC here.
