The City of Kamloops is undertaking a project to widen the Highway 1 exit ramp at Pacific Way, allowing for a double left-hand turn onto Pacific Way. This upgraded design aims to improve intersection capacity and reduce queuing on Highway 1. Construction is expected to begin in March and will involve lane and ramp closures, along with detours for traffic.

As part of the upgrades, a full closure of the Pacific Way westbound off-ramp has been proposed for 4 to 6 weeks, tentatively starting March 15. During this time, traffic will be redirected to alternate routes. Given the high traffic volumes in this area—including transit and dangerous goods routes—significant impacts are expected.

The City of Kamloops has indicated that the detour strategy will not funnel all vehicles to a single route. Instead, drivers will be guided to use the most direct alternative paths, helping to reduce congestion and delays.

An information session is planned for February, where more detailed project updates, including detour plans and timelines, will be shared. We will continue to monitor developments and provide relevant updates to our members as they become available.
