(Langley, BC) – The BC Trucking Association (BCTA) proudly announces remarkable accomplishments in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. After nearly five years of dedicated efforts, the CleanBC Heavy-duty Vehicle Efficiency (HDVE) Program is decarbonizing the trucking industry, improving efficiency while drastically reducing environmental impact across North America.

Since its launch in 2019, the HDVE Program has achieved significant milestones, reducing British Columbia’s commercial transportation sector’s fuel burn by approximately 111.4 million litres of diesel across North America (77.5 million litres in B.C.). This substantial achievement translates to a reduction of approximately 301.8 million kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions continent-wide (or 210.0 million kilograms eliminated in B.C.). This equates to the program removing the equivalent of approximately 64,216.5 passenger vehicles off our roads across North America, or 44,732.3 vehicles in B.C. This was accomplished by training over 420 companies that combined, operate more than 35,000 heavy-duty vehicles, on how to implement fuel-efficient practices through the program’s fuel management course. Incentives are also provided to promote the adoption of emission-reducing technology. Under the HDVE Program, rebates of up to $20,000 per vehicle and $150,000 per fleet are available for the purchase and installation of program-approved equipment and technology.CleanBC Heavy-duty Vehicle Efficiency Program

“This achievement underscores the dedication of our industry to sustainability and innovation,” remarked Dave Earle, BCTA President and CEO. “The CleanBC Heavy-duty Vehicle Efficiency Program has not only reduced greenhouse gas emissions but has also elevated the standard for environmental stewardship in trucking.”

BC's Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Rob Fleming, acknowledged the HDVE Program's significant impact, saying, “The CleanBC Heavy-duty Vehicle Efficiency Program has demonstrated its effectiveness in reducing emissions and advancing our province's climate action goals. Through strategic partnerships with organizations like the BC Trucking Association, we continue to drive progress towards a greener transportation sector.”

“BC companies are world leaders in innovation and providing cleaner transportation options. Our government is proud of our partnership with the BC Trucking Association and how much we have accomplished together in the past five years,” said Josie Osborne, Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation. “Improving fuel efficiency in heavy-duty trucking is good for business and good for the environment, helping to create good jobs in a growing industry and build a clean economy.”

As the CleanBC Heavy-duty Vehicle Efficiency Program continues to make strides in reducing emissions and enhancing efficiency the BC Trucking Association remains committed to championing initiatives that prioritize sustainability and environmental responsibility.
