On May 26, 2021 BCTA met with the City of North Vancouver to discuss the modelling outputs and design criteria for Esplanade. During the meeting, BCTA reviewed design measures to ensure that current operational needs, future growth in demand of the commercial sector, congestion, greenhouse gas emissions, and safety implications are being considered.

This meeting was a follow up to BCTA’s May 13, 2021 letter to the City of North Vancouver seeking detailed design drawings to ensure the Esplanade design complies with Transportation Association of Canada’s (TAC) suggested practices and a request to review existing and proposed traffic modelling from the road network. Of significance to our industry, the City of North Vancouver will be maintaining two vehicle lanes in each direction on Esplanade and lane widths will exceed minimum TAC guidance for constrained urban streets.
