Trucking HR Canada (THRC) released a labour market information update on October 12th, providing a current snapshot of truck driver employment in Canada. The update reports that in the second quarter of 2021 there were 18,000 truck driver vacancies, along with 72% of employers reporting that the recruitment of truck drivers is a significant business challenge.

While the recruitment of truck drivers remains a top concern, rising input costs along with recruitment challenges for non-driving positions are growing concerns. The October 2021 labour market snapshot includes THRC’s analysis of the most recent publicly available data obtained through customized data requests, combined with employer surveys.
