On November 2, 2021, BCTA met with Kaye Krishna, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, to highlight the discussion topics of the Highway 91/17 Upgrade Project, Provincial Permit Centre Delays, electronic logging devices, speed limiters and the CleanBC Heavy-duty Vehicle Efficiency Program.
To support the commercial road transportation industry, BCTA recommended the following:
- Implementing electronic logging devices (ELDs) coincident with Transport Canada;
- Mandating provincial speed limiters on all heavy-duty trucks with a maximum speed set to 105 km/h;
- Extending the CleanBC Heavy-duty Vehicle Efficiency Program partnership between the Province and BCTA for at least an additional three years;
- Support for BC’s breakbulk sector through promoting a more efficient road network on Highway 91/17; and
- Addressing Provincial Permit Centre backlogs through reviewing and simplifying the current regulatory framework for OS-OW vehicles and expediting the development of an online permit system with the ability to support multi-jurisdictional permitting.
BCTA is committed to working with the Ministry of Transportation to support the shared priorities of the commercial road transportation industry.
