June 10, 2024

Starting June 1, 2024, the general minimum wage in our province will increase from $16.75 to $17.40 per hour.

In February 2024, an amendment to the Employment Standards Act was made to ensure future increases to minimum rates will automatically be based on the previous year’s average inflation rate for BC. This change aims to provide continued certainty and predictability for both workers and employers, ensuring that minimum-wage earners will see their wages keep pace with inflation. Most wage rates will increase on June 1 of each year

In 2023, BC. increased the minimum wage by 6.9%, which was the increase in the cost of living in the province in 2022.
