Trucking HR Canada's (THRC) Student Work Placement Program is designed to enhance the job readiness of students enrolled in post-secondary programs. Employers can benefit from a wage subsidy of up to 70%, with a maximum of $7,000 for each student work placement. This initiative not only reduces the immediate costs of hiring and training new talent but also builds a future talent pool with experienced candidates. These work placements also showcase the variety of career opportunities within the company to soon-to-be graduates actively seeking post-graduate employment.

THRC facilitates this program by partnering with employers and post-secondary institutions to create connections and deliver work-integrated learning opportunities for students.

To participate, employers must hire students who are:

  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons with refugee status in Canada
  • Able to provide proof of part- or full-time enrollment in a Canadian post-secondary institution
  • Legally entitled to work according to relevant provincial or territorial legislation & regulations

Work placements must offer:

  • Full-time or part-time work (minimum 4 weeks up to a maximum of 16 weeks, with at least 10 hours per week), directly related to the student’s program of study
  • Positions not funded by any other Federal Grant Program
  • Employment on the company’s payroll, as participants are ineligible for the program as contractors
  • A safe and harassment-free work environment

Employers must also:

  • Submit evidence of salaries remitted to participants (pay stubs) for reimbursement
  • Provide a safe and harassment-free work environment

This program is beneficial for both employers and future career seekers. By creating opportunities for students, employers help introduce the next generation to the range of job opportunities within the sector, while also paving a pathway into the industry.

THRC will start accepting applications on July 15th from employers interested in hiring eligible students for Fall 2024 (Sept - Dec). To access the expression of interest form, visit here.
