The transportation sector is a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions in Canada, with medium- and heavy-duty vehicles contributing a considerable share. To address this, there is growing interest in reducing emissions through advancements in aerodynamic technologies for trailers.

Transport Canada is currently seeking proposals for the development of an efficient class 8 heavy-duty truck dry-box van trailer, optimized for highway use across Canada and the United States. The focus of the initiative is on next-generation aerodynamic technologies, such as active flow control systems and trailer geometry morphing. These innovations aim to reduce aerodynamic drag and enhance energy performance for both conventional diesel and zero-emission trucks.

Funding of up to $650,000 is available for research and development of prototypes. This opportunity is open to individuals and organizations with relevant expertise in trailer design and aerodynamic technologies.
