On October 23, BCTA participated in the International Mobility & Trade Corridor Program (IMTC) Regional Assembly in Bellingham, where discussions focused on planned upgrades to border facilities and anticipated traffic volume increases in 2026 due to the FIFA World Cup.

Key infrastructure updates are underway at the Pacific Highway, Lynden, and Sumas Ports-of-Entry. Design plans include lane expansions and new facilities to enhance border crossing efficiency. BCTA is actively engaged in reviewing these designs and supporting efforts to mitigate traffic volumes during the projected construction period in 2025-2026.

Additionally, the Advanced Border Information System (ABIS) project is advancing to provide real-time travel times across border crossings, a feature expected to support smoother transit for travelers during high-traffic events like FIFA. ABIS is on track to launch ahead of the 2026 tournament, enabling travelers to access up-to-date crossing information through a downloadable app.
