Caring For Your BCTA Bloom

How-to: Caring for Your BCTA Bloom

Thank you for joining us at the BCTA Members Banquet! As a small token of our appreciation, we’re sending you home with a little something to brighten your space — a flowering bulb to grow and enjoy.

Here’s how to care for your BCTA bloom and help it thrive:

1. Choose the Right Spot
Place your bulb in a sunny location — either in a pot indoors near a window or outside in a well-drained garden bed. Most flowering bulbs love the sun!

2. Plant with Care
Your bulb has already been planted in a compostable pot, but it’s important to ensure there’s proper drainage. Place the pot on a saucer or in a container that allows excess water to drain away to prevent root rot.

3. Water Wisely
Keep the soil lightly moist but not soggy. Overwatering can cause bulbs to rot. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry.

4. Patience Pays Off
Bulbs take time! Depending on the variety, you may see shoots in a few weeks — or they might bloom next season. Keep caring for them, and they’ll reward you with beautiful flowers.

5. After Blooming
Once your bulb has bloomed, let the leaves stay until they’ve yellowed and withered. This allows the bulb to store energy for its next flowering cycle. Then, you can trim the foliage and let the bulb rest until the following season.

Let it grow!
We hope your bloom brings a little extra joy and colour to your day — just like our members do for us year-round. Happy planting!
