Port Pass

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s (VFPA) Port Pass program is administered by the Port of Vancouver or, when required, Transport Canada’s Marine Transportation Security Clearance (MTSC) program. A Port Pass is required at all Port of Vancouver terminals, roadways, and facilitiesPlease check the requirements with the terminal you will be doing business with.

To request a Port Pass, a company must first have a terminalsponsored Port Pass file with the BCTA.

Requesting a Port Pass

Employers are responsible for completing and submitting a Port Pass sponsorship request form for all Port Pass requests including new, renewals, lost, stolen, deletions,  and transfers. 

Send the completed form to [email protected] 

Your driver(s) will receive an email from the Port of Vancouver with a link to an online Port Pass application to complete.  

Requesting a Port Pass

Employers are responsible for completing and submitting a Port Pass sponsorship request form for all Port Pass requests including new, renewals, lost, stolen, deletions,  and transfers. 

Send the completed form to [email protected] 

Your driver(s) will receive an email from the Port of Vancouver with a link to an online Port Pass application to complete.  

Transferring a Port Pass

Port Passes are issued subject to sponsorship by a company.  

Employers are responsible for completing and submitting a Port Pass sponsorship request form for all Port Pass requests including new, renewals, lost, stolen, deletions  and transfers. 

Send the completed form to [email protected] 

Deleting a Port Pass

Companies are not responsible for collecting Port Passes from former employees or current drivers who may no longer service the Port. However, they must withdraw their sponsorship immediately. 

To do so, provide the driver’s details and the date the driver left your company OR stopped servicing the Port using the Port Pass sponsorship request form. 

Send the completed form to [email protected]. 

An Applicant

An applicant must be sponsored by a company and is required to submit an online application for a new, renewal, damaged, lost, or stolen Port Pass. 

Never Requested a Port Pass Before

If you have never requested a Port Pass before, please contact the BCTA Port Pass Program at 604-888-5319, or [email protected]. 

New Application

Once your company has submitted a sponsorship form to BCTA and it has been approved, you will receive an email from the Port of Vancouver with a link to the online application:  Port  Pass Application.  

Please note: you must choose British Columbia Trucking Association on the third page of the online application, or we may not receive it. 

If you are approved, you will receive an email with a link to book your appointment to obtain your port pass at the BCTA office. Please bring acceptable photo identification. 

Acceptable photo ID: Driver’s Licence (interim paper licences are not accepted), BC Identification Card, Canadian Passport, FAST membership card, Nexus card, other Canadian government-issued photo ID, OR non-Canadian government-issued photo ID

Additional Costs:   

Replacing a lost pass:

  • First instance: $60,  
  • Second instance: $100  
  • Third instance: $150  

Confiscated Port Passes are subject to a handling fee of $30 for members and $45 for non-members, which must be paid before BCTA can return the Pass. 

Please make payments directly to BCTA via cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or debit card.  Alternatively, invoicing can be arranged- please check with your company. 

Lost/Stolen Port Pass

Please contact BCTA at 604-888-5319 ext. 218 and report your name, Port Pass number, and telephone number as soon as possible. 

If your Port Pass has been stolen, you must contact the local police department and file a report. BCTA will need the form at this line filled out (Stolen Notice Link) 

Confiscated Port Pass

Your Port Pass will be confiscated if company sponsorship information is not kept up to date when you change companies or if you go to the Port with an expired Port Pass. 

  • The security guard will send an incident report to the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA). Once VFPA confirms there is no security breach, the guard will return the Port Pass to BCTA within 3 business days. Before coming to the office to pick up your pass, please call the BCTA office in advance to confirm whether your Port Pass has arrived. 
  • If you have changed companies: BCTA will return your Port Pass to you when your new company completes the Port Pass Sponsorship Form and sends it to BCTA. 
  • If your Port Pass has expired: BCTA will return your Port Pass when you complete the renewal process. 

Confiscated Port Passes are subject to a handling fee of $30 for members and $45 for non-members, which must be paid before BCTA can return the Pass.
