Minister of Transport, Omar Alghabra, will be hosting a National Supply Chain Summit in the first quarter of 2022 to examine how our transportation supply chains have been impacted by COVID-19 and extreme weather events. Stakeholders from industry, as well as shipping and infrastructure organizations will convene to address Canada’s supply chain and how to better streamline operations by identifying ways to mitigate supply chain pressures.
During COVID-19 and the extreme weather events in 2021, BCTA and its members have been at the forefront of the challenges we were faced with by coming up with innovative solutions to facilitate goods movement. During the fires in the summer of 2021, BCTA members stepped up to donate transport services and storage facilities. Members also rose to the occasion during the floods this past November to transport critical goods and supplies to the areas that needed it most. BCTA worked with the Canadian Trucking Alliance and Canadian Border Services Agency to expedite interim special measures to streamline the movement of goods in and out of the province while flooding damage continues to affect infrastructure. We have been a key participant in provincial and federal discussions to safeguard our members’ interests and ensure existing supply chain disruptions are minimized and will continue to keep you informed of any updates.
