The May 2024 edition of the Transportation Dangerous Goods (TDG) guide is now available on BCTA’s online store.

This guide is essential for helping drivers understand current regulations regarding the transportation of hazardous materials and covers crucial topics such as placarding, shipping, documentation, and commodity lists. This latest publication supersedes all previous versions, incorporating editorial changes that reflect recent regulatory amendments, including recent changes to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act (TDGA) and Regulations (TDGR). The new guide also includes a range of updates and new information, including:

  • Updated Information from Schedules 1 & 2: The handbook includes updated tables reflecting all recent amendments and additional dangerous goods listed in the current UN recommendations, including those not yet included in the TDGR:
    • Schedule 1: This section provides detailed information on more than 3,500 named and UN-numbered dangerous goods, including their class, packing group, special provisions, limited quantities, and thresholds for Emergency Response Assistance Plans (ERAP).
    • Schedule 2: This section details over 160 unique special provisions applicable to various named and UN-numbered dangerous goods.

The guide introduces the new registration database for persons or organizations involved in activities and operations involving dangerous goods in Canada. Registration in the Client Identification Database (CID) is mandatory by October 2024 (see bulletin article here). This new section helps users determine their registration requirements and provides resources from Transport Canada.
