Thank you to all our members who joined us for the three-day federal labour laws sessions on November 2- 4, 2021. We had strong participation and were able to provide members with updates regarding labour standards, occupational health and safety, and pay equity.

BCTA Meeting with Deputy Minister Kaye Krishna

On November 2, 2021, BCTA met with Kaye Krishna, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, to highlight the discussion topics of the Highway 91/17 Upgrade Project, Provincial Permit Centre Delays, electronic logging devices, speed limiters and the CleanBC Heavy-duty Vehicle Efficiency Program.

From surveying our members, we found that approximately two-thirds of BCTA members are federally regulated. You are federally regulated if you are an extra-provincial truck and/or bus carrier that carries goods or passengers across a provincial or international boundary.

Gordon Payne, Chairman of Harbour Link Container Services Inc.

The BC Trucking Association extends our deepest sympathies to the Payne family for the loss of Gordon Payne, Chairman of Harbour Link Container Services Inc. Gordon was a long-time supporter of BCTA, and his loss will be deeply felt.

TransLink Releases Draft of Transport 2050 Strategy

On October 12, 2021, TransLink released its draft transportation vision for Metro Vancouver, which focuses on their goals of making transportation convenient, reliable, affordable, safe, and carbon-free. As the transportation authority for the Lower Mainland, this draft 30-year transportation plan (Plan) includes recommendations across the entirety of TransLink’s jurisdiction, including management of the Major Road Network (i.e., Truck Route) and Regional Goods Movement Strategy.
