Pay Transparency Act: BC Employers Must Include Pay in Job Postings as of Nov 1

The new Pay Transparency Act was passed on May 11, 2023, which places the requirement on BC employers to post the expected salary or wage, or expected salary or wage range, in publicly advertised job advertisements.

The Act came into force to address pay transparency and the gender pay gap in the workplace. The Government of BC has noted that in 2022, women in BC earned 17% less than men, and the pay gap disproportionately impacts Indigenous women, women of colour, and immigrant women, as well as women with disabilities and non-binary people.

Reminder to Federal Employers: Pay Equity Plans Due September 3, 2024

On August 31, 2021, the Pay Equity Act and its Regulations came into force which created new requirements for federally regulated workplaces with 10 or more employees. The new legislation requires employers to proactively examine their compensation practices to ensure that they are providing equal pay to men and women doing work of equal value.

Accessible Canada Act- Plan Deadline is June 1st

The Accessible Canada Act is a federal law that was created to find, eliminate, and prevent barriers that people with disabilities face daily. Adopted in 2019, the Act’s primary goal is to create a Canada that is free of barriers by 2040.

To accomplish this, the Act requires that federally regulated private employers with 100+ employees prepare and publish an initial Accessibility Plan by June 1st, 2023. The date assigned to employers with 10 – 99 employees is June 1st, 2024.
