Beginning June 6, 2021, eligible employers can access the Canada Recovery Hiring Program (CRHP). The CHRP provides support to eligible employers that continue to experience qualifying declines in revenues relative to before the pandemic.  The purpose of the program is to make it as easy as possible for eligible businesses to hire the new workers they need so that the economy can recover at a quicker pace.

The program would offset a portion of the extra costs employers take on as they reopen, either by increasing wages, or hours worked or hiring more staff.  Eligible employers would be provided with a subsidy of up to 50 percent of incremental remuneration paid to eligible active employees between June 6, 2021, and November 20, 2021.

Eligible remuneration for the CRHP includes salary, wages, and other remuneration for which employers are required to withhold or deduct amounts on account of the employee’s income tax obligations. Each eligible employee would be subject to a maximum remuneration of $1,129 per week.

As the rates for both the Wage subsidy and the Hiring Program will slowly ramp down over time, employers are strongly encouraged to begin hiring as soon as possible to maximize their benefit. The Canada Recovery Hiring Program will be available through the Canada Revenue Agency.

Eligibility

Employers elibible for the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy are generally eligible for the Canada Recovery Hiring Program. Eligible employers must be Canadian-controlled private corporations, including individuals, non-profit corporations, registered charities, and certain partnerships.

Eligible employees must be primarily employed in Canada by an eligible employer throughout a qualifying period.
